Chelmsford Remembrance Sunday 2026: Parade and Service

Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November 2026. Chelmsford’s service and parade is held at the War Memorial on Duke Street, and Chelmsford City Council has not yet published this year’s timings. It announced last year’s on 31 October, nine days before the event, so expect the same again.

What is confirmed, and what is not

How the morning runs

The council’s announcements for 2022 and 2025 describe the same order of events, so it is a fair guide to this year (Chelmsford City Council, 31 October 2025).

1. The service begins at the War Memorial just before 11am. In 2025 it was conducted by the Dean of Chelmsford, the Very Reverend Dr Jessica Martin, with contributions from the city’s inter-faith community.
2. Maroons are fired at 11am to mark the two-minute silence.
3. Wreaths are laid by the Mayor, Armed Forces representatives and community groups.
4. The parade marches off along Rainsford Road, then returns to march past the War Memorial, where the Mayor takes the salute.

The council provides a shelter for elderly and disabled ex-service men and women. It also publishes the order of service, with the hymns and prayers, on its website before the day.

Armistice Day, 11 November

In 2025 the council said the two-minute silence would be marked by maroons at 11am on both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, 11 November. It said the same in 2022. Armistice Day is a Wednesday this year. Whether the maroons will be fired again has not been confirmed.

Laying a wreath

Organisations that want to lay a wreath during the service register in advance. In 2025 the council asked them to email the Mayor’s office at mayors.office@chelmsford.gov.uk with the organisation’s name. The same address was used in 2022.

Road closures and parking

In both 2022 and 2025, parts of Duke Street closed from 10am on the Sunday. Both years the council said access to Fairfield Road car park from Coval Lane would stay open.

The Remembrance concert

The Royal British Legion Remembrance Concert, in aid of the Poppy Appeal, is at Chelmsford Theatre on Monday 12 October 2026 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £22 to £25, with a concession price for veterans (Chelmsford Theatre).

• The 2026 start time and order of service. The council published on 31 October last year and 2 November in 2022. We will check on Monday 26 October.

• Parish services in South Woodham Ferrers, Great Baddow, Writtle, Danbury and the other villages, which parish councils and churches announce separately.
