156 new firms registered at Chelmsford addresses in September, up from 114 in August: a Duke Street takeaway, a Springfield Road restaurant and a nail bar.

A total of 156 new companies were registered at addresses in Chelmsford city council’s area in September. That is up from 114 in August, and level with the 155 registered in September 2025.

The figures come from the Companies House register. We counted every company incorporated between 1 and 30 September with a registered office inside the city council’s boundary, from the city centre out to Writtle, Broomfield, Danbury and South Woodham Ferrers. The register was searched on 3 October.

The new restaurants, shops and salons

Most new companies are consultancies, builders and property firms run from a home address. A handful give an address on a high street or a trading estate:

  • Chelmsford Eat In Ltd, registered 18 September at 30 Duke Street, classed as a takeaway
  • Grey Foods Ltd, registered 25 September at 122 Springfield Road, classed as a licensed restaurant
  • Casbah Grill Ltd, registered 26 September at 15 St Johns Road in Moulsham, also a takeaway
  • TNK Enterprises Ltd, registered 9 September at the Best Western Atlantic Hotel on New Street, listing restaurant, café and takeaway trades
  • Woodham Nails Ltd, registered 18 September at 6 Chipping Row, South Woodham Ferrers
  • Highway Valeting Centre Ltd, registered 18 September at a car park on the A414 London Road, classed as specialised cleaning
  • Chaimee Kitchens Ltd, registered 11 September at Reeds Farm Estate on Roxwell Road, Writtle, classed as a general retailer
  • Bambino’s Hub Ltd, registered 1 September on The Street in Little Waltham, classed as child day care

Food, drink and hospitality had ten new companies in all, double August’s five. Three list a takeaway as their main trade.

What the new firms do

Every company gives at least one trade code when it registers. We grouped the 156 by the first code each lists.

Building and trades more than doubled, from eight in August to 17. “Everything else” includes four residents’ management companies, the kind set up to run a block of flats, five cleaning and grounds-care firms, four motor trade firms and two hair and beauty businesses.

Four of the finance companies belong to one group. Argentic Europe Holdings, Argentic Europe Finance, AEF Warehouse 1 and Novera Bidco were all registered between 17 and 21 September at 2 Springfield Lyons Approach in Chelmer Village.

Where they are

Moulsham and Central ward had the most new companies, with 34. Marconi ward, which includes Hoffmanns Way, had 21.

The top wards:

  • Moulsham and Central: 34
  • Marconi: 21
  • South Woodham-Elmwood and Woodville: 19
  • Broomfield and The Walthams: 15
  • Chelmer Village and Beaulieu Park: 11
  • Writtle: 7

By postcode, CM1 had 67, CM2 had 57, the city’s part of CM3 had 30 and its part of CM4 had two.

Two addresses account for 22

Two buildings were the registered office of 22 of the 156 companies.

Ten gave Swift House, 18 Hoffmanns Way. The register lists 696 active companies at its postcode, CM1 1GU, so it is plainly a registered-office address used by many firms that trade elsewhere.

Twelve gave the same address on Inchbonnie Road in South Woodham Ferrers, which accounts for most of that ward’s 19. The register lists 73 active companies there, including two accountancy firms. Most of them were set up years ago: September’s 12 compare with four still-active companies registered there across the whole of 2025. Several of the new names echo older companies at the same address. N2S Management Services Ltd joins N2S Management Ltd, registered in 2020, and Enigma IT and Consulting Ltd joins Enigma IT Consulting Ltd, also from 2020.

Using a professional’s address is ordinary practice. It keeps a director’s home address off a public database. A registered office is where official post goes, not where the business trades.

How we counted

We searched the register for companies incorporated in September with “Chelmsford” or a CM1 to CM4 postcode in the registered office address. That returned 185. We then checked every postcode against the official postcode directory and kept only those inside Chelmsford city council’s area.

The 29 we dropped are elsewhere: 11 in Brentwood borough, five in Uttlesford, three in Braintree district, two in Maldon district, and eight elsewhere, from Basildon to Stockport. The August and September 2025 figures were counted the same way.

One caution on the year-on-year comparison: the register shows each company’s address today. A firm set up in Chelmsford last September that has since moved away is not in the 155, and one that has moved here is.

What it means for you

A registration records an intention, not an opening. Some of these firms will become a takeaway or a salon you can walk into. Others will trade from a spare room, and some will never trade at all. Where we name a street above, it is the address on the register.

Each company name links to its free Companies House record. You can look up any company the same way and see its directors, filings and accounts. It is worth doing before you pay a deposit to a new firm.
